Description
Mastecyl P® is a sterile oily solution containing drostanolone propionate, an esterified form of drostanolone. Drostanolone is a synthetic derivative of dihydrotestosterone, while the propionate ester is attached to the 17β-hydroxyl group and gives the molecule a lipophilic character suitable for an oil-based injectable preparation.
The oily injectable form is suited to this esterified steroid compound for deep intramuscular administration. After injection, the oil phase forms a depot from which the esterified substance is released before enzymatic hydrolysis of the ester bond yields drostanolone. Compared with longer-chain esters, the shorter propionate ester is an important factor in the depot character of the preparation.
