Description
Testocyl C® is a sterile oily solution containing testosterone cypionate, an esterified form of testosterone. The cypionate ester is attached to the 17β-hydroxyl group of the testosterone molecule and increases its lipophilic character, making it suitable for an oil-based injectable preparation.
The oily injectable form is suited to this esterified steroid compound for deep intramuscular administration. After injection, the oil phase forms a depot from which the esterified substance is released before enzymatic hydrolysis of the ester bond yields testosterone. In this type of preparation, the cypionate ester structure and oil-based vehicle are important factors influencing the depot character of the product.
