Description
Testocyl Mix® is a sterile oily solution containing four esterified forms of testosterone: testosterone propionate, testosterone phenylpropionate, testosterone isocaproate and testosterone decanoate. Each ester is attached to the 17β-hydroxyl group of testosterone and modifies the lipophilic character of the molecule, with the combination covering short, intermediate and longer-chain ester forms in one oil-based injectable preparation.
The oily injectable form is suited to these esterified steroid compounds for deep intramuscular administration. After injection, the oil phase forms a depot from which the individual testosterone esters are released before enzymatic hydrolysis of the ester bonds yields testosterone. In this multi-ester preparation, the different ester structures and oil-based vehicle are important factors influencing the overall depot character of the product.
