Description
Oxymecyl® is a sterile oily solution containing oxymetholone, a 17α-methylated anabolic steroid derived from the dihydrotestosterone structure. The molecule includes structural modification at the 2-position of the steroid nucleus and is presented as the active compound itself, rather than as an esterified prodrug.
The oily injectable form is suited to the lipophilic character of this steroid compound for deep intramuscular administration. In this type of preparation, the oil phase acts as the carrier for the dissolved active substance, while release from the injection site is governed by distribution from the oily vehicle rather than ester hydrolysis.
